Mt Prospect, Illinois - "Disaster Ready People for a Disaster Ready America™" is the slogan
of the Illinois not-for-profit organization, The
Emergency Preparedness Educational Institute.
The Institute's purpose is to help people help themselves
by bringing family emergency/disaster planning into
the community and workplace on a proactive basis. Its
programs are geared to help reduce the stress, worry
and distraction caused by a disaster or emergency. In
a simple six-step training process, and within 45 minutes,
anyone interested in protecting his or her family and
home can learn how to build a personalized emergency/disaster
preparedness plan. This plan shows them how to set up
communications with family members when a crisis develops,
determine emergency meeting places and critical contact
information, and create evacuation procedures and disaster
survival kits. Care of seniors, disabled persons and
pets is also part of the plan.

The Institute was formed from a deep concern about
the risk that everybody in America faces, especially
after the tragedy of September 11th. Because of the
political, terrorist and economic activities occurring
globally, the nature of emergency preparedness is different
than it was when many emergency agencies were formed.
In a disaster or emergency situation, an employee's
first response is usually to look after his family and
home. Most people do not have a plan for this.
The goal of the Institute is to deliver the message
of how to prepare people in America through workplace
and community educational programs. Currently, the Institute
is offering programs to non-profit organizations, municipalities,
hospitals, schools and private enterprises and a management train the trainer program. The Institute
is located in Mt Prospect, Illinois.
